Stephen J Darbishire was born in the English Lake District in 1940 where he still resides with his wife and family, in a 17th century farmhouse hidden in the mountains. The love of his surroundings comes to life through his paintings. The interiors of cottages and farm houses, sunlight pouring in through windows, fires burning in open hearths, tables laid for afternoon tea, along with the celebration of the seasons, are characteristic of his work. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; the Royal Society of Portrait Painters; The Royal Institute of Oil Painters; the New English Art Club and annually at the Richard Hagen Gallery, in Worcester. He is a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and the Lake Artists Society. His love of the Lake District is the inspiration for his paintings, which can be found in collections throughout the world.
